Harnessing Soil Metabolism for Sustainability

Over 90% of food comes from soil, making soil fundamental to civilization and prosperity. Yet, what makes for healthy soil–soil microbiome metabolism–remains a black box. Within the next decade, we will experience shortages of staple crops unless we can learn to diagnose soil dysfunctions and prescribe climate-smart soil and plant health solutions. At Prosper we are studying soil as an integrated whole by focusing on soil metabolism which is the natural process by which plants and microbes grow and transform soil organics.

Bridging Scientific and Translational Gaps

Advances in analytical technologies coupled with AI are poised to enable us to enable us to detect imbalances in soils to prescribe targeted organic supplements that restore soil health. We have technologies to generate key datasets and use AI to achieve prescriptive soil-plant health management.

However, these technologies are too early in their development cycle for traditional start-up financing or corporate R&D. Yet, academic research is too slow and inefficient to develop them at the necessary pace needed to meet the urgent challenges facing agriculture. Prosper bridges this gap by developing these technologies across different application areas to the point where they are licensed to and commercialized by companies.

AI-Driven Solutions

Utilizing advanced AI and metabolic modeling technologies to predict and improve soil and plant health for future resilience.

Aerial view of a contrasting agricultural landscape with lush green fields and freshly plowed brown soil. Two tractors are visible, one red and one green, working in the field. A flock of birds appears to be following the tractors, likely searching for insects. The fields have distinct patterns and lines, indicating organized farming practices.

Innovative Solutions

Our technical platform is applicable to many critical agricultural challenges: from carbon sequestration to inhibiting a vast array of pathogens and pests to enabling low-input agricultural solutions

Feeding Soil Microbiomes

Soil microbiomes are at the heart of healthy soils. Our research is identifying missing organic compounds that are needed to support healthy soil microbiomes. Through this knowledge, we are designing soil supplements that restore healthy microbiomes, which in turn resist plant pathogens and promote plant health.

Building Soil Organics

We all know what dark organic rich soils looks like. These soils are naturally resistent to drought, floods, pests, and nurture plants over the growing season. Unfortunately, these organics are easily lost and slow to accumulate. At Prosper we are learning the factors that drive the formation of soil organics from the carbon dioxide that plants capture from the atmosphere so that we can increase these processes.
